Operation Phantom Fury
The Battle to Take Fallujah
Fallujians Celebrate as a Truck From a US Convoy Burns
History
The assault on the Iraqi city of Fallujah just west of Baghdad has been building for weeks, but confirmation and orders were given coinciding with the announcement of the winner of the US election. On the 7th of November 2004, a joint US-Iraqi army effort began to enter the city. The town had been starved of population for days, as movements were very heavily monitored and road blocks ensured very few fighting fit males could enter the city. Only an estimated 30,000 people remained in the city by the 6th, of which estimates range from 6000 to 1500 were insurgents. Around 30% of the insurgents are estimated to be foreign nationals come to fight the Americans. When each objective is obtained an Iraqi flag is raised and not the Stars and Stripes, though the vast majority of the 15-20000 troops in involved in Operation Phantom Fury are US soldiers.
Fallujah is located just west of Baghdad on the river Euphrates
